During the 2016 World Congress of the International Federation of Tourism Journalists and Travel Writers (FIJET) held in Tunisia the first association with members from Latin America, USA and Canada was constituted and approved. Since there was not an association within the Americas. FIJET Americas was formed and approved in 2016 during a Congress in Tunisia. The main objective is the promotion of tourism between the Americas and the world. Elected as the first president was Mrs. Maria Elena Paredes, a professional with extensive experience as a journalist and tourism professional.
